Dr. Halverson presents research at IU Medicine Grand Rounds, joins podcast

Picture of Colin
Earlier this month IUCB Faculty Investigator Colin Halverson, PhD presented “The Rare Disease Odyssey: Genetic Testing, Ethics, and the Case of the Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes,” for IU Department of Medicine Grand Rounds. His presentation, based on his current and past research on improving care for rare genetic diseases, draws an analogy between the tumultuous and lengthy diagnostic processes encountered by people with EDS as akin to a hero’s journey. A complete recording of Dr. Halverson’s lecture can be accessed here:

Dr. Halverson also recently appeared on the podcast “Hidden Diagnoses Impact,” to discuss medical dismissal, diagnostic trauma, and patient self-doubt. Dr. Halverson examined how these erode patient trust and erect barriers to care for younger, disabled, and chronically ill individuals.
